Coal India’s ₹5,000 Crore OFS Opens for Retail Investors Amid Strong Institutional Response

Coal India’s ₹5,000 Crore OFS Opens for Retail Investors Amid Strong Institutional Response

Coal India’s ₹5,000 crore Offer for Sale opened for retail investors after receiving strong demand from institutional investors.

The government is selling a 1% stake in Coal India as the base offer, with an option to sell an additional 1%, taking the total potential stake sale to 2%. The floor price has been fixed at ₹412 per share.

The non-retail portion of the OFS saw strong participation, with institutional bids significantly exceeding the shares reserved for them. For retail investors, 10% of the total offer size has been reserved, while a portion has also been set aside for eligible Coal India employees.

Coal India remains a key company in India’s energy sector, as coal continues to play a major role in electricity generation. The offer also comes at a time when public sector companies are seeing increased market attention due to their earnings visibility, dividend history, and role in India’s infrastructure and energy demand.

At the same time, the company operates in a sector facing long-term changes as India gradually expands its renewable energy capacity and cleaner energy initiatives.

The OFS is being closely watched as both a government stake-sale event and a reflection of market interest in traditional energy companies amid India’s growing power demand.
