
State-owned power major NTPC Ltd. is in discussions to acquire a minority stake in US-based nuclear fuel technology company Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) as part of its strategy to strengthen its nuclear energy portfolio.
NTPC has clarified that it regularly evaluates domestic and international investment opportunities and that the proposed investment in CCTE is currently at an exploratory stage. Any decision will be subject to due diligence and required regulatory and statutory approvals.
CCTE is known for its thorium-enriched uranium nuclear fuel technology, which is designed to be compatible with existing reactor technologies. The potential partnership could support NTPC’s long-term plans to expand nuclear power generation and adopt advanced fuel solutions.
The company has not entered into any binding agreement yet and has stated that discussions are ongoing. The move aligns with NTPC’s broader goal of increasing its nuclear power capacity as part of India’s long-term clean energy and energy security strategy.
