Reliance Jio plans 2.5% IPO that could become India’s largest-ever public offering

Reliance Jio Platforms, the telecom and digital arm of Reliance Industries led by Mukesh Ambani, is preparing to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in 2026 that could become the largest in Indian history. The company is considering listing around 2.5% of its equity, which, given current valuation estimates, could raise more than $4 billion, surpassing the previous record held by the Hyundai Motor India IPO.

Investment bank Jefferies estimated that Jio’s valuation stood at approximately $180 billion. At that valuation, floating a 2.5% stake could generate around $4.5 billion in proceeds, making it India’s biggest-ever IPO by size. However, the exact valuation and timing will depend on regulatory approvals and market conditions.

Under current Indian market rules, large companies must offer a minimum of 5% in public share sales, but a proposal to reduce that threshold to 2.5% for mega‑IPOs is awaiting approval from the finance ministry. Sources say Reliance prefers the smaller float to create stronger pricing interest among investors.

Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani previously indicated that Jio Platforms aims to list in the first half of 2026, and preparations are underway with major investment banks involved in drafting IPO documentation. The anticipated listing has generated significant investor interest, with the IPO expected to bolster India’s primary markets and offer an exit route for existing global investors.
