Nvidia director Persis Drell resigns from board, leaves with 143,000 shares worth around $26 million after decade‑long tenure

Nvidia Corporation announced that long‑serving board member Persis Drell has resigned from its Board of Directors to pursue a new professional opportunity. Her departure, effective January 20, 2026, also includes stepping down from the board’s Compensation Committee. The company stated her resignation was not due to any disagreement over operations, policies, or practices.

Drell, who joined Nvidia’s board in 2015, held approximately 143,000 Nvidia shares valued at around $26 million at the time of her resignation. During her more than decade‑long tenure, Nvidia’s stock price has surged dramatically, delivering exceptional returns for long‑term shareholders.

In 2025, Drell received board compensation totaling around $344,000, including significant stock awards, and she sold about 40,000 shares last year. Her departure reduces Nvidia’s board to 10 members, including CEO Jensen Huang, and marks the second board exit in recent months.

Drell is a professor of physics, materials science, and engineering and former provost at Stanford University, bringing both academic and technical expertise to the company’s governance over her tenure.
