Indian Stock Market to Stay Open on Sunday, 1 February 2026 for Budget Trading Session

In a historic development, the **Indian stock market — including NSE and BSE — will remain open for trading on Sunday, 1 February 2026, coinciding with the presentation of the Union Budget 2026-27 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This marks a rare Sunday trading session directly tied to the Union Budget, breaking the usual weekend closure.

According to exchange circulars, the markets will observe standard trading hours, with the pre-open session beginning at 9:00 am, normal trading from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm, and post-market activities following the usual schedule. The decision allows investors and traders to react in real time to fiscal announcements that may influence markets.

The Sunday session is part of adjusted market operations for Budget Day, and various derivatives segments including equity derivatives, currency derivatives, and commodity derivatives will also be available for trading. Certain settlement rules, such as the suspension of T+0 sessions, may apply due to the unique timing.

This special trading session reflects the significance of the Union Budget and offers market participants a direct channel to engage with budget-related market movements. Attention now turns to how key indices and sectors respond during the session amid broader economic expectations for 2026-27.
