Stock Market Live: GIFT Nifty Signals Positive Start; US & Asian Markets Mixed Ahead of Indian Trade

Indian equity markets showed resilience on Monday as benchmark indices traded higher in early sessions, shrugging off mixed cues from global markets.

The GIFT Nifty futures indicated a positive start for the Indian market, providing early optimism for traders ahead of the full open.

By late morning, the BSE Sensex was up over 100 points while the Nifty 50 climbed above 25,500, supported by buying interest in energy and banking stocks.

Heavyweights such as HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries contributed to the gains, helping the benchmarks hold their ground despite a lack of broad participation.

Market breadth, however, remained weak with more stocks declining than advancing on the exchanges, a sign of caution among investors.

While financial and defensive sectors witnessed buying, the IT pack remained under pressure with major tech names trading lower, keeping the recovery uneven.

Broader indices such as midcaps and smallcaps were largely flat, and the India VIX — a measure of market volatility — edged higher, signalling lingering uncertainty.

Natco Pharma stood out with strong gains after regulatory approval to launch a generic version of Semaglutide, boosting pharma sector sentiment.

Overall, domestic markets showed a positive bias in early trade, with investors balancing mixed global signals against robust buying in key sectors.
