India has officially set a Guinness World Record for securing the most pledges in a 24-hour AI responsibility campaign, a landmark achievement announced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam,
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that the nationwide campaign, launched on February 16 under the IndiaAI Mission in partnership with Intel India, recorded a staggering 250,946 valid pledges between February 16 and 17, far surpassing the original target of 5,000.
The initiative invited citizens from across the country to commit to the ethical, inclusive, and responsible use of artificial intelligence via a dedicated online portal.
Participants interacted with scenario-based questions covering key principles such as data privacy, transparency, accountability, and combating misinformation. Those who completed the pledge received digital badges and access to curated AI learning pathways.
The official record was verified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator during the summit. Vaishnaw emphasised that the overwhelming response demonstrates growing public awareness and engagement in building a trustworthy and human-centric AI ecosystem.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for encouraging youth and citizens to embrace responsible AI practices for societal benefit.
The record-setting achievement underscores India’s proactive role in shaping global discourse on responsible AI and reflects its commitment to ethical technology adoption at scale.
