Rupee Slips Against US Dollar in Early Trade

Rupee Slips Against US Dollar in Early Trade
The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, pressured by sustained foreign fund outflows, firm global crude oil prices and cautious sentiment in equity markets. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower and continued to face selling pressure as the dollar remained strong in global markets. Market participants said demand for the US currency from importers and foreign banks added to the downside. A muted start in domestic equities and concerns over global economic uncertainty further weighed on the local currency. Traders also remained cautious ahead of key global macroeconomic cues and central bank signals, which could influence currency movements in the near term. Forex dealers noted that while the Reserve Bank of India’s intervention may help curb sharp volatility, the rupee could remain under pressure in the short term due to foreign portfolio investor outflows and global risk aversion. Investors are now closely watching upcoming economic data and developments in global markets for further direction in the currency market.
