₹2.5 Lakh Crore Wiped Out: Nifty IT Records Worst Week Since 2020

₹2.5 Lakh Crore Wiped Out: Nifty IT Records Worst Week Since 2020

India’s IT sector witnessed a brutal sell-off this week, with the Nifty IT index falling nearly 10%, marking its worst weekly performance since the March 2020 Covid crash. The sharp decline erased around ₹2.5 lakh crore in market capitalisation, wiping out nearly five weeks of gains.

The biggest trigger behind the fall was weak Q4 earnings and cautious forward guidance from major IT companies like Infosys and HCL Tech. Investors were disappointed by slower deal conversions, conservative revenue outlooks, and concerns around global tech spending.

Another major overhang remains AI-led disruption fears, as global investors are reassessing whether traditional outsourcing and low-end coding work could face margin pressure from automation tools and agentic AI platforms. This has led to aggressive selling across the sector, especially in frontline names.

Analysts are now watching whether this becomes a short-term panic sell-off or the beginning of a deeper valuation reset for Indian IT stocks.

Do you think this IT sector crash is a long-term buying opportunity, or is AI disruption a real threat to Indian IT stocks?
