Oil India Plans Major Production Boost Over Next 18 Months with Massive Infrastructure Expansion

Oil India Limited (OIL) says it is preparing for a major transformation in crude oil and gas production over the next 18 months through aggressive infrastructure expansion and new drilling projects.

Chairman and Managing Director Ranjit Rath stated that the company is investing heavily in production infrastructure, pipeline connectivity, and exploration activities to significantly change the company’s production narrative in the coming years.

The company is focusing strongly on the Northeast region, especially Assam, while also expanding operations in offshore and frontier energy blocks. OIL is reportedly increasing drilling intensity and modernizing production systems to improve output efficiency and reduce operational bottlenecks.

Along with conventional oil and gas production, Oil India is also expanding into renewable energy, green hydrogen, geothermal projects, and carbon reduction initiatives as part of its long-term energy transition strategy. Experts believe the company’s aggressive expansion could help strengthen India’s domestic energy security and reduce dependence on imported crude oil.

The company’s management believes the next 18 months could become a turning point for production growth as new projects and infrastructure gradually start contributing to output. Analysts are also closely watching whether rising domestic production can help Indian energy companies benefit from volatile global oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty.

Do you think India can significantly reduce crude oil imports if companies like Oil India rapidly increase domestic production?
