Adani's ₹1.1 Lakh Crore Aluminium Bet Challenges Hindalco-Vedanta Duopoly

Adani's ₹1.1 Lakh Crore Aluminium Bet Challenges Hindalco-Vedanta Duopoly

The Adani Group, in partnership with Abu Dhabi-based IHC (International Holding Company), is making a massive ₹1.1 lakh crore ($11.5 billion) investment to enter India's aluminium industry. The joint venture will develop a fully integrated aluminium complex in Odisha, including an alumina refinery, aluminium smelter, captive power plant, and downstream manufacturing facilities.

Rather than directly taking market share from Hindalco and Vedanta, Adani is betting on India's rapidly growing demand for aluminium driven by infrastructure, renewable energy, electric vehicles, and manufacturing. If completed as planned, the project could increase India's aluminium production capacity by nearly 50%, making Adani a major player in the sector.

Can Adani break the Hindalco-Vedanta dominance in India's aluminium market?
