India to Seek Vessel-by-Vessel Clearance from Iran for Ships Passing Through Strait of Hormuz
India is planning to seek vessel-by-vessel clearance from Iran for its ships passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, according to government sources. The move comes amid rising tensions in West Asia due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Instead of obtaining a blanket permission for all ships, Indian authorities are now coordinating with Iranian officials for individual approvals for each vessel to ensure safe passage through the critical maritime route. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital shipping corridors, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas supplies. Any disruption in this narrow passage can impact energy markets and global trade flows. India has stepped up diplomatic engagement with Iran to protect its shipping interests and maintain energy supplies. Officials say negotiations and coordination with Tehran have already helped some Indian-flagged vessels transit the strait safely despite the ongoing conflict. The government is also closely monitoring the situation as several Indian vessels and seafarers remain in the region, and ensuring their safety has become a top priority for authorities.
