The Government of India has doubled the daily allocation of 5-kg LPG cylinders for migrant workers across all states to improve fuel accessibility. The decision was taken by the Petroleum Ministry amid rising concerns over LPG shortages caused by global supply disruptions.
These small cylinders will be distributed exclusively to migrant labourers through state governments and civil supplies departments, with support from oil marketing companies. The revised allocation goes beyond the earlier 20% cap, and is based on average supply data from early March 2026.
The move aims to prevent issues like workers returning to their hometowns due to cooking fuel shortages and to ensure stable living conditions for migrant populations in cities.
