Sensex Ends Volatile Session Lower, Nifty Slips Below 24,200 After Late Selling

Indian stock markets witnessed a highly volatile session today. After opening strong and moving higher in early trade, the market failed to hold gains due to late profit booking and selling pressure in banking stocks.

At market close, the Sensex fell 122 points to 77,988, while the Nifty slipped 34 points to 24,196, ending just below the 24,200 mark.

A key reason behind the intraday volatility was profit booking after the sharp rally seen in the previous session, when Sensex had surged more than 1,200 points. Investors turned cautious at higher levels and booked gains near resistance zones.

Another factor was mixed sectoral performance. While IT and metal stocks showed strength, banking and financial counters remained under pressure, which dragged the headline indices lower.

The positive side was that midcap and smallcap stocks outperformed, indicating that broader market sentiment is still relatively strong despite benchmark weakness.

Simple takeaway — market trend remains positive, but volatility and profit booking are likely to continue in the short term.

Do you think this dip is a buying opportunity or should investors wait for more correction?
