HDFC Bank has issued an important advisory asking customers not to use credit cards, debit cards, or forex cards for capital account transactions abroad, such as buying foreign stocks, booking overseas property, opening offshore bank accounts, or setting up companies outside India.
The bank clarified that while regular overseas spending like shopping, hotel bookings, travel, and dining is allowed, capital account transactions must go through proper banking channels under RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). Using cards for such purposes may violate FEMA and RBI regulations, and such transactions may now be declined or restricted.
This alert comes amid increasing scrutiny on overseas remittances, especially cases where some individuals reportedly used card swipes for Dubai property bookings and foreign investment accounts. HDFC also warned that attempts to bypass TCS and LRS limits could attract penalties.
Do you think stricter rules on overseas card transactions will reduce misuse or create inconvenience for genuine investors?
HDFC Bank ne apne customers ko ek important advisory di hai ki credit card, debit card ya forex card ka use foreign stocks kharidne, overseas property booking, offshore account kholne ya bahar company setup karne ke liye na karein.
Bank ne clear kiya hai ki shopping, hotel booking, travel aur dining jaise normal international expenses allowed hain, lekin investment ya property purchase jaise transactions ko RBI ke Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) ke proper banking channel se hi karna hoga. Agar card se aise transactions kiye gaye to wo decline ya restrict ho sakte hain.
Ye alert tab aaya hai jab overseas remittances par scrutiny badh gayi hai, especially Dubai property bookings aur foreign broker accounts ke cases mein. Bank ne ye bhi warning di hai ki TCS ya LRS limit bypass karne par penalty lag sakti hai.
Aapko kya lagta hai — kya ye stricter rules misuse rokne ke liye sahi hain ya genuine investors ke liye problem banenge?
