India Proposes New Rules to Allow Higher Ethanol-Blended Fuel in Vehicles

India Proposes New Rules to Allow Higher Ethanol-Blended Fuel in Vehicles

In a major step towards reducing crude oil imports and promoting cleaner energy, India has proposed new rules to allow vehicles to run on higher ethanol-blended fuels such as E85 and E100. This move comes after the successful rollout of E20 fuel across the country and is aimed at strengthening energy security while supporting domestic ethanol production.

The draft rules issued by the government are currently open for public feedback. If implemented, this could be a big boost for the sugar, ethanol, and flex-fuel vehicle ecosystem in India, while also raising questions around compatibility for older vehicles.

Do you think higher ethanol blending will reduce fuel costs and benefit India’s energy future?
