The Indian rupee weakened sharply on Thursday, sliding to an all‑time low against the US dollar in early trade, pressured by surging global crude oil prices and a stronger greenback.
The currency fell about 32 paise to around ₹95.20/$1, marking a new historic low for the rupee. Traders said the decline was driven by elevated Brent crude prices and strong demand for US dollars amid global market uncertainty.
Higher oil costs increase India’s import bill risk and add to inflation concerns, given the country’s heavy dependence on crude imports. At the same time, the US dollar gained strength due to safe‑haven flows and hawkish signals from the US Federal Reserve, adding pressure on the rupee.
Earlier sessions also saw sustained foreign investor outflows from Indian assets, which further weighed on the currency.
Do you think the RBI should intervene more aggressively to support the rupee? Why or why not?
Indian rupee ne US dollar ke muqable me Thursday ko ek naya record low touch kiya, jab currency early trade me lagbhag ₹95.20/$ par slippage dekh rahi thi. Ye fall rising global crude oil prices aur ek strong US dollar ki wajah se hua.
Traders kehta hai ki Brent crude oil ke high levels aur global uncertainty ki wajah se safe‑havens me dollar ki demand badh gayi, jisne rupee par additional pressure dala.
High oil prices se India ka import bill heavy ho sakta hai, jisse inflation aur current account deficit par risk badhta hai. Saath hi, US Fed ke hawkish stance aur dollar strength ne rupee ko aur weak kiya.
Foreign investors ke Indian markets se paise nikalne se bhi rupee par negative impact padha hai.
Aapke hisaab se RBI ko rupee ko stable rakhne ke liye aur interventions karne chahiye? Kyun?
