Sensex Falls 583 Points, Nifty Ends Below 24,000 as Crude Oil, Weak Rupee and FII Outflows Hit Sentiment

Indian stock markets closed lower on April 30 after a volatile session, with selling pressure seen across most sectors except IT. The Sensex ended 582.86 points lower at 76,913.50, while the Nifty fell 180.10 points to close at 23,997.55.

The broader market also remained under pressure. The Nifty midcap index lost around 1%, while the smallcap index declined 0.5%. Among sectors, metals fell nearly 2%, while PSU banks, private banks, consumer durables and realty stocks also dropped around 1% each.

Top Nifty losers included Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Hindalco Industries, Eternal, HUL and Axis Bank, while Bajaj Auto, Sun Pharma, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finance were among the gainers.

Market experts said the key pressure points were rising crude oil prices, weak global cues, rupee depreciation to record low levels, foreign investor outflows and geopolitical concerns around the Middle East. Higher crude prices are especially negative for India because the country is a major oil importer.

Going ahead, analysts expect markets to remain stock-specific, with investors tracking crude oil prices, rupee movement, FII activity, global developments and upcoming corporate earnings.

Do you think this market fall is a short-term correction or a sign of more weakness ahead?
