Auto Retail Sales Jump 13% to 26.11 Lakh Units in April, Strong Demand Drives Growth

Auto Retail Sales Jump 13% to 26.11 Lakh Units in April, Strong Demand Drives Growth

India’s automobile retail sector recorded a strong performance in April 2026, with total sales rising 13% year-on-year to 26.11 lakh units, according to industry data.

The growth was largely driven by strong rural demand, better affordability, and favorable financing conditions, which supported higher vehicle purchases across segments. Two-wheelers and passenger vehicles played a major role in this surge, reflecting improving consumer sentiment.

Notably, rural markets outperformed urban areas, showing significantly higher growth as mobility demand increased in smaller towns and villages. This trend highlights the expanding reach of the auto market beyond metro cities.

However, experts have cautioned about potential challenges ahead, including rising input costs, global uncertainties, and possible supply chain disruptions, which could impact future growth momentum.

Overall, the strong April numbers indicate a positive start to the financial year for India’s auto industry, backed by demand recovery and structural growth factors.

Do you think this growth in auto sales will continue throughout 2026?
