Indian-Origin CEOs Beating Wall Street? Michael Milken’s Statement Sparks Big Debate

Indian-Origin CEOs Beating Wall Street? Michael Milken’s Statement Sparks Big Debate

A recent statement by billionaire investor Michael Milken has gone viral after data reportedly showed that companies led by Indian-origin CEOs significantly outperformed the broader US stock market over the last 15 years.

Milken had jokingly said that whenever a US company replaces an American-born CEO with an India-born CEO, he buys the stock. A backtest of this strategy later showed surprisingly strong results. According to the analysis, a portfolio of US-listed companies led by Indian-origin CEOs delivered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 30.3%, compared to 14.2% for the S&P 500 benchmark.

The report highlighted several major companies led by Indian-origin CEOs, including Microsoft, Alphabet, Adobe, IBM, and Mastercard. Stocks like Arista Networks, Micron Technology, and Enphase Energy reportedly delivered exceptional long-term returns under India-born leadership.

However, analysts also pointed out that many Indian-origin CEOs are concentrated in the technology sector, which itself has been one of the best-performing sectors globally over the last decade. So, experts caution that sector strength may also be a major reason behind the outperformance — not just leadership origin alone.

The discussion has now triggered a broader debate around global Indian talent, leadership quality, and the growing influence of Indian-origin executives in the world’s biggest corporations. 👀

Do you think Indian-origin CEOs have a unique leadership style that helps companies grow faster globally?
