Sensex Ends Flat After Volatile Session; Nifty Holds Above 23,400 Amid Global Tensions

Indian stock markets witnessed a highly volatile trading session on May 13, 2026, but managed to close slightly higher after four consecutive days of decline. The BSE Sensex ended around 50 points higher at 74,608, while the Nifty 50 closed above the 23,400 mark.

Market sentiment remained cautious due to rising crude oil prices, continued foreign investor selling, and uncertainty surrounding the Iran-US geopolitical situation. The Indian rupee also touched a fresh record low against the US dollar during the session, adding pressure on investor confidence.

Metal stocks emerged as the biggest gainers during the session, with companies like SAIL witnessing strong buying interest. Meanwhile, IT and banking stocks remained under pressure. Vodafone Idea shares also surged after reports that the company may consider a fresh fundraising plan.

Analysts believe that global oil prices, geopolitical developments, and foreign institutional investor (FII) activity will continue to drive market direction in the coming days. Despite the recovery, experts are advising investors to remain cautious amid ongoing volatility.

Do you think this market volatility is a buying opportunity for long-term investors or a warning sign to stay cautious?
