PM Modi to Seek More Oil & Gas Supplies From UAE Amid Global Energy Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to seek additional crude oil, LNG, and LPG supplies from the United Arab Emirates during his brief visit to Abu Dhabi on May 15, as India looks to strengthen energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

According to reports, India is aiming to secure long-term energy agreements and expand cooperation on strategic petroleum reserves. The visit comes at a time when fears around disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing Iran-related tensions are creating uncertainty in global oil and gas markets.

Sources suggest that India and the UAE may sign two major MoUs related to LPG supplies and petroleum reserves during the visit. Discussions are also expected around expanding India’s strategic oil storage capacity, where Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) already stores crude oil in India’s Mangaluru reserve facility.

The UAE is currently one of India’s biggest energy partners and supplies a major portion of India’s LPG and crude oil imports. Reports indicate India may also explore alternative energy routes through Fujairah to reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz, which has become increasingly sensitive due to regional conflicts.

Experts believe the visit highlights how energy security has become a top priority for India as crude oil prices remain volatile and the Indian rupee faces pressure from rising import costs.

Do you think India should aggressively secure long-term global energy deals now to protect itself from future oil and gas crises?
