Indian stock markets witnessed extreme volatility today as the Sensex and Nifty initially crashed sharply due to rising oil prices, weak rupee, global bond yield pressure, and Middle East tensions. During intraday trade, nearly ₹7 lakh crore of investor wealth was wiped out from the market.
However, markets staged a strong recovery in the second half of the session. The Sensex recovered nearly 1,100 points from the day’s low and finally closed 77 points higher at around 75,315, while the Nifty ended almost flat near 23,650. IT stocks like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and HCL Tech supported the recovery as a stronger dollar boosted investor interest in export-focused companies.
The Indian rupee still closed at a record low of 96.35 against the US dollar, while crude oil prices remained above $110 per barrel due to geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the US. Experts believe volatility may continue in the coming days as investors closely track global developments and FII activity.
