Global Giant Capital Group Bets Big on Adani, Cuts Reliance Exposure in Major Investor Shift

One of the world’s largest investment firms, Capital Group, is making a major shift in its India strategy by increasing investments in Adani Group companies while steadily reducing its exposure to Reliance Industries. Reports suggest the global asset manager has invested more than $2 billion across Adani Ports, Adani Power, and Adani Green Energy in recent weeks.

According to reports, Capital Group purchased nearly a 2% stake in Adani Ports through open-market deals worth around ₹7,486 crore. The firm has also reportedly accumulated 1.5%–2% stakes in Adani Power and Adani Green Energy, signaling growing global confidence in Adani Group’s infrastructure, energy transition, and manufacturing businesses.

At the same time, Capital Group has sharply reduced its Reliance Industries holdings over the past several years. Bloomberg data cited in reports shows the firm held around 755 million Reliance shares at its peak in 2017, which has now dropped to nearly 142 million shares.

Market experts believe global investors are now increasingly looking at infrastructure, ports, power, logistics, and energy transition themes as the next big India growth opportunity. Strong performance in Adani stocks has also supported this trend, with Adani Power, Adani Green, and Adani Ports delivering strong gains over the past year.

The development is also being viewed as a sign of improving investor confidence in the Adani Group after months of regulatory scrutiny and legal uncertainty.

Do you think global investors are now seeing Adani Group as India’s next big long-term growth story over Reliance?
