Motilal Oswal Warns Up to 30–40% of Indian IT Services Revenue at Risk as AI Advances from Palantir, Anthropic Trigger Market Concerns

Indian IT services sector is facing significant revenue disruption risks from rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, according to a recent analysis by Motilal Oswal Financial Services.

The brokerage noted that as much as 30–40% of traditional IT services revenue—especially in areas like application development, maintenance, and testing—could be vulnerable to AI-driven deflation in the coming years.

Motilal Oswal estimates that up to 9–12% of current IT services revenue may be eliminated over the next three to four years as automation and AI tools replace routine tasks that have historically been billed on a human hours basis.

The report suggests this could create a roughly 2% annual headwind to sector revenue growth if companies fail to adapt quickly.

Recent comments from AI software firm Palantir about its ability to compress complex enterprise software work, such as ERP implementation timelines, have heightened concerns that advanced AI platforms may further erode reliance on traditional third-party software and services.

Despite these risks, the report also highlights emerging areas of growth, including AI-assisted testing, prompt engineering, and model integration, which could offer new revenue streams for firms willing to innovate.

Strategic partnerships with AI-native companies are expected to become increasingly important to future competitiveness in the sector.

The analysis comes amid volatility in Indian IT stocks, which have recently faced pressure alongside global tech sector sell-offs sparked by AI-driven disruptions. Analysts say the sector must accelerate adaptation to AI technologies to sustain long-term growth and mitigate structural risk.
